Biking is good for you

Bicycle Film Festival NYC!!
Bruce meets us downtown for this yearly event. Saturday includes 30+ films (short & long, docu & fiction, US & intl) that have a bicycle theme.

Before all the films are finished, Ron and Bruce get antsy and jump on their bikes. It is a beautiful day.

Smorgasburg in Williamsburg Brooklyn.. a “flea food market.”

A delicious mulberry tree on Flushing Ave in Brooklyn. Yum.
Helpful hint: you can easily spot mulberries when the sidewalk and road are stained purple.

It’s feels good to be on an adventure ride.

Red Alert.
Despite all the smiles and fun biking, Bruce confides he’s got chest pains and numbness in both arms.

Luckily, Bruce agrees to see a doctor, who tells him that his main artery has a 100% blockage, also known as the widow maker. But because of all his bicycling his body created new paths to work around the blockage, and that basically biking saved his life. The doctor fixed the problem with surgery and Bruce is on the road to recovery. Thank goodness!!
Sunny daze

We play a game called Tourists In Our Own City. Here I am heading into Queens.

A little selfie pano action on the beach at the Brooklyn East River waterfront, looking out towards midtown Manhattan.

The architecture of bridges always seems so photogenic to me.
This is Ron on the Williamsburg Bridge.

We haven’t been to Mon Petite Cafe in a while..

It’s even better than we remember.. wonderful French food and thoughtful service.

Ron’s a good leader.. and I view him from the back a lot. “Wait up so we can take a picture together!”

Ahhh.. Manhattan on a warm, sunny day : )

Hey! The Freedom Tower photobombed the Washington Square arch!

Watching the skill and the drama at West 4th Street courts. (“It wasn’t a foul.. he said to ‘Bring It!'”)

This was perhaps our farewell bike ride with Derek before he heads off to Boston. Next ride, Beantown.

Celebratory party at Tavern on the Green for four surgeons who graduated from their residency programs. Hoo-yah!
Eli digs Jersey

To give our cousin Elijah a taste of the countryside outside of NYC, we brought him to our Jersey place for the weekend. He immediately took to the minibike.

He learned to ride the quad and loved cruising down the driveway and across the front field. Well, that is until he saw a black bear up close and personal. Thankfully he was able to zoom away.

Eli loves seafood, so we planned a little lobster party. When I say little, I don’t mean the lobsters, which averaged 5 pounds each.

We set out to show Eli our hilly Sussex countryside. Sunny skies and happy smiles.

It’s a beautiful area, and Eli admitted he liked our part of New Jersey. He didn’t say he loved biking it though…

We stopped by to see Lady Liberty in a local patriot’s front yard. In the end we completed over 12 miles of hilly terrain. (And he’s smiling!!)

A swim in the pool soothes the muscles. Ahhh…

With “Steve’s horse” (yes, that is apparently his name). Lorine introduced Eli to all of their horses when we visited their farm..

Needless to say, Elijah is now a Double S Diner fan. Chocolate chip pancakes, please, and no, he doesn’t want a short stack! YUM.
Eli in NYC part 2

Bubbles make kids of every age smile.

Goofy for gold.

Same sense of humor….

Appreciating the arts at Bethesda Terrace in Central Park.

(Apparently this joke doesn’t get old).
At St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Captain Ron Sounds the Charge Boating on the lake in Central Park.

World famous (right?) Gray’s Papaya for hot dogs. Two each?!

Channeling their inner Broadway in Times Square!

Riding the subway to meet up with cousin Kelli.
They’ve got their don’t-mess-with-me faces on.

We visited with Kelli on the set of her current movie. So cool.

Little Italy for a late lunch. Calamari, linguine vongole, fettuccine alfredo and capellini primavera.

A little gridlock can’t stop these two.

Freshly pierced ears and a new Stetson cap.. he’s starting to blend in and look like a New Yorker.
