In Honor of Grandma

A year ago, I helped Grandma Georgie celebrate her 92nd birthday. Grandma loved a party, and we all had a great time. Now she is gone, and I felt like I needed to remember her love of life and do something fun to celebrate her birthday, the way she would like to.

Birthday weekend started on Friday night… Chinese takeout and a movie with Jesse, Noah, Skylar, Ivey and Stephen. And I ordered Cashew Chicken, in Grandma’s honor.

Grandma became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in 1973. She made me a member in 1986, and now that she is gone I am looking into finding a local chapter. In honor of Grandma's birthday I treated two women from the Chinkchewunska Chapter, Allyn and Bonnie, the Regent.

In honor of Grandma’s birthday, on Saturday I treated two women from the Chinkchewunska Chapter to lunch. Here I am with Allyn (corresponding secretary) and Bonnie (the chapter Regent).

After lunch Ron and I hit the road to join a local party. (I wore my white & turquoise jersey in Grandma’s honor).

Grandma's birthday is also the 25th anniversary of our local Wallkill National Wildlife Refuge.

Well, it’s Grandma’s birthday, I guess I should have some cake. But wouldn’t you know it, the fresh local apples were actually more delicious.

Time to race back home. We have to get ready for dinner…

We took our friends Eric and Laura out to dinner to celebrate their engagement! (I wore turquoise again, in Grandma’s honor).

Come on.. the night’s still young! We made a couple of stops on the Warwick, NY Moonlight Pond Tour. Very cool.

Sunday rides are always a pleasure…

Breakfast at the barn. Grandma would’ve loved it.

Grandma was always on the move, happy to be able to go and do… This weekend we’re doing a good job of living life and keeping busy, but I might need a little downtime in my hammock swing this afternoon!

Grandma & Grandpa always got dessert.. So we went to Dairy Queen and got a turtle sundae to share. And since Grandma was so happy when someone surprised her by buying her ice cream, we treated some people tonight. I even got a hug! Afterwards, we drove out of the cloud cover to see the eclipse of the super blood moon. In Grandma’s words, “Another day gone good.”

Night in NYC

SVA filmmakers present their film, “Dime Crimes #34” which I do not recommend (sorry).

Oscar-nominated animator and filmmaker Bill Plympton is famous for his animated short "Your Face" (1987) which is pretty entertaining. We also viewed his short "The Loneliest Stoplight" (2015) and his "award-winning" feature film "Cheatin'" (2013) which were really not entertaining (to me).

Bill designed an original creation for Ron. Awesome!

I biked over to gourmet vegan restaurant Blossom in Chelsea.

Dinner for one.. seitan scaloppine with mashed potatoes and sauteed kale. Delish. The people next to me raved about the vegan tiramisu, but I was full!

So i start My ascent to High Point State Park 2500 Feet up

This climb calls for Maple Bacon Power!!

Back in front of the Double S Diner. 35miles, 3000 feet of climbing, Top Downhill Speed 45mph. Now I’m ready to get off the bike and have a good meal..

Happy to be on bikes

The feature: a female-directed Saudi Arabian film,”Wadjda” which is about a young Muslim girl who wants to get a bicycle, in spite of cultural beliefs that she will lose her virtue and virginity if she rides a bike. Eye opening.

Ron has his hi viz, front and back lights, and his blue belt for the ride home. The Chrysler and the Empire are visible in the distance.

Then we sprint to West 67th Street to donate to free comedy..”laughter in the park”

To my surprise we trek west for a Mustard Tasting at “Maille”… We got the Extra spicy “White wine Mustard”.. fantastic.

High Style no Holds barred French dinner with friends..Thank you thank you thank you all. I am full of life, love, and happieness…… I Have No Words…….
