Noodles seem to be everywhere around here.
Like Like (please pronounce “lee-kay lee-kay”) is a local landmark.
Saimin is a Hawaiian specialty.. A noodle soup that has Japanese, Chinese and Filipino influences. The Like Like saimin has a homemade shrimp broth that wasn’t my favorite.
7-11 has good food here in Hawaii: Filipino pancit noodles and chicken adobo over rice. (Oh, and spam musubi and spicy ahi tuna sushi roll on the side….)
On the hunt for more noodles at the Ohana (family) Festival sponsored by the Japanese Cultural Center.
These are noodles in a different format.. okonomiyaki: noodles, eggs and veggies wrapped in a crepe and topped with a sweet sauce. It tasted okay… It was far more exciting to see them prep it.
Marukame Udon: I got the kamaage udon.. the noodles are separate from the hot dipping sauce. The homemade noodles are a bit hard to eat because they are so looong, but it was quite tasty.
Arancino on Beachwalk: spaghetti with fresh uni (sea urchin) in a sweet garlic wine cream sauce… wow!!
Ward Warehouse farmers’ market: raw vegan pad thai with kelp noodles, cilantro, cashews, red cabbage, bean sprouts, carrots, peppers, and peanut sauce… (Ron says kelp is what Spongebob eats!) Super crunchy and very tasty.
Renee and I hit the new King Street bike lane to the Blaisdell Concert Hall for the Shanghai Circus.
…the Hare Krishna Temple founded in 1966 in New York, just like you Ron.. For the all-Vegetarian buffet..”
Vegetable lasagna, rice w/ turmeric, cauliflower curry, steamed veggies and a really good salad with cilantro or almond dressing. Also, not pictured, lentil soup, and fresh ginger + mint lemonade. Dessert was halava… kind of like a cream of wheat with cardamom… Everything was great.
