Auf wiedersehen Poppy… Hasta luego Papi.
I told Grandpa today that I was heading back to New Yawk City and he said “Okay, I’ll go with you.” I told him I loved him and he said, “You do?! Well, thank you.” : )
We were supposed to leave yesterday and hop on the train back to NYC. But earlier yesterday morning a commuter train hit a garbage truck that was stuck on the tracks. The tracks were damaged and the signal switches were ruined, which caused delays all around.
Our 5:27pm departure was delayed four hours, then six hours, and in the end, it was delayed almost 10 hours. Very thankful we weren’t involved in the crash, and also happy we weren’t delayed all that time while ON the train.
We ended up getting a bonus day with our family!
We decided waiting at the Amtrak station at 2am wasn’t something we wanted to do so we asked for a refund, and booked a flight home for today.
Traveling with bicycles mystified the clerk at Delta. Other employees would stop by to try to help. It took 30 minutes to check our bags.. So glad we had arrived early!
As we were walking towards security, we heard someone call out, “Ron!” It was cousin Angela, who was there at the airport to pick up a friend! Wow, small world.
Ron always hates going through security. This time was terrible. Ron was wearing a favorite pair of G-Star pants that happens to have lots of pockets with zippers. Uh oh. When I heard the stern TSA agent say something about buttocks, I had to look away.
Poor guy. Ron got frisked!
About this time, I realized that one of Ron’s prized Disney honorary cast-member pins was missing. Crap! He was wearing one and I had the other. Yes, had : (
I somehow found the rubber Mickey pinback in the internal pocket of my fleece jacket, but the pin was gone.
I texted cousin Angela and her friend had just arrived. I asked her to look around.. maybe the pin had fallen off when we were hugging hello and goodbye. A minute later (literally) she texted back, “WAHA I found it!” Now how about that?!
The fun wasn’t over yet. Ron went to buy a bottle of water and realized that the Delta clerk didn’t give him back his credit card after charging us extra for the bicycles.
I asked the gate agent to call up front, and they had the card. We managed to get a Delta rep to come to across the airport, catch the monorail and bypass security to return the card. Just in time too… our flight was fully boarded and ready to go!
Back at home in NYC. Traveling can be so fun, and so exciting!
(Note the hat and gloves.. Crap, it’s cold here!)
You definitely have new experiences. Glad it all turned out well.
In San Antonio and found out that the river on river walk is drained for cleaning and inspection. How odd. But then we discovered San Antonio- The Saga…a French Artist 7000 sq foot digital projection of San Antonio life on the San Ferando Cathedral at Main Plaza on its wall. It lasts for 24 minutes. Full of lights, scenes and movements…unreal. Is here for 10 years. A must see……
Tomorrow off to Fredericksburg….then El Paso.
Soon you will be off to Hawaii…keep posting, Y
