Cousin Kelli met me down in the East Village today.
We attended the holiday brunch of the Daughters of the American Revolution. We had a really nice time!
Afterwards, I couldn’t unlock my lock! Some nice guys from San Fran stopped by to see if they could help, but nope, still locked.
(Looks like autumn!)
Although Ron wasn’t feeling well, he biked downtown to help me. He brought oil and liquid wrench, but the key still wouldn’t insert all the way.
(Notice that it’s gotten dark by now).
After Ron worked on the lock for 45 minutes I called a locksmith. He brought an electric plug-in side grinder and went to work on cutting off the lock.
In the meantime the NYPD showed up. Yep, someone had reported us. (Good!!)
((Police activity on St Marks Place!!))
In order to prove that the bike was mine, I pulled up this blog on my phone and showed them a picture of me on my bike. : )
A total of six officers showed up.. two cruisers with two officers each, and two on foot.
The locksmith cut one side of the lock and then tried to twist it off… hahaha! He had to cut the second side as well. The whole process took him 20 minutes!
This is a new version of the New York Fahgettaboudit lock with a redesigned key. I think Kryptonite has some explaining to do.
The officers were very nice.
Another fun-filled day!
Yay for NYPD! and the DAR.
