Bike & Bite

Posted by on February 28, 2013

Our bike adventures often include food.  (almost always.. ha!)

Ron suggested that we include a “bike & bite” update from time to time.

Bike & Bite – Key Largo, FL 2/28/13

We took a night ride for dinner and dessert.  (Remember, there’s an excellent bike path here).  We went to locally-owned son and mother restaurant, Category 3.  I’d read that they were famous for burgers, and I don’t eat too much beef, but I thought we’d give it a shot.  Excellent food, friendly service, and we ended up chatting with the owner, Bill.  We’re already planning to stop by on our way back north in a month.

Bill the owner took this pic for us next to his smoker.

There are some burgers here that I haven't imagined before. The shrimp scampi burger is pretty intriguing...

Ron and I split the Cat V burger stuffed with jalapeño, bacon, pepper jack cheese and topped with (fresh, hot) jalapeño.

Dessert #1: we got a bourbon bacon brownie to go from Cat 3. Dessert #2: locals recommended Mr. C's homemade coconut ice cream. We also tried the awesome peanut butter ice cream. (Good things we've basically only eaten fish during the last week).

Joe… you should meet us at Cat 3 on 4/1/13…!! Jamie… only local restaurants in the keys, and every place has local fish. It’s amazing.

Black Rock isn’t exactly on the way home, but maybe! I will see about detouring in that direction. It would be fun…
