There are a lot of cyclists on Maui.. You’ve got locals just getting around, serious “Lancey pants” and tourists on rental bikes.
We are somewhere in between. We might put on padded spandex shorts, but we’re always looking for adventure, not just putting in miles for exercise.

Today’s journey took us to the Maalaea harbor.

We volunteered at the Pacific Whale Foundation.

We helped out in the gift shop. Behind the scenes! We did inventory and pricing.

Plus, we greeted people getting off the whale watch boats with a coupon for a free poster. I also helped a couple people with restaurant recommendations and tips on pronuncing Hawaiian names.

We both agreed a side trip to Maui Pasta Company was worth the extra miles. Even with 20-mile an hour winds against us. (Yes, it’s that good).

Very delicious, as always. They even made Ron a special order of cacio e pepe.

Feeling good, body, belly & spirit…

We set off on a Friday adventure. Even some sprinkles weren’t going to stop us. 

Okay, now it’s really raining. Sheesh. But we are steadfast in our endeavor. Four miles down, 10 to go…

First stop: fuel.
Have you been watching Top Chef? Local fav Sheldon has been doing well, and we really like his plate lunch place, TINROOF.

Mission two: see the new Star Wars movie, Rogue One.
Ticket in hand, Ron is stoked!

However, the theater is closed, due to a water main break. What?! They couldn’t give us any estimate of time, and umm, this is the only theater on Maui where it’s playing.

As we walked around the mall, waiting and hoping, we saw this sign, and had to laugh. Yep, the power of water is keeping us from our mission! How ironic.

After waiting about an hour, we got new tickets for a different showing and actually got in to see the movie!
Ron loved it!! Yay.. mission accomplished.

Feeling good now, and the ride home is much brighter!

BUT, we’ve got a strong headwind against us..! A sustained 17-mile an hour wind.. Arrr.

It hard, slow and boring biking against the wind. We need something to pep us up…..

Ron found us some sugar cane!! The last fields have been harvested, as Maui ends an era of sugar manufacturing.
